Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is renewing threats to end the filibuster this week to pass an election reform bill.
Schumer has given Republicans until January 17 to let the bill pass or else he promises to gut the filibuster. But to do so, Schumer will need to get the support of Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV).
Manchin, however, remains skeptical.
Big-wig Democrats are all coordinating to pressure Manchin to change his mind – including President Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama, and even billionaire talk show host, Oprah. Oprah and Obama are both claiming to have made personal phone calls to the West Virginia Senator within the last week.
Democrats, many of whom supported the filibuster less than two years ago, have recently made the claim that the filibuster needs to go away because it is “antiquated” and “racist.”
The “voting rights” bill Schumer is attempting to pass would, among other things, make Election Day a public holiday, mandate same-day voter registration, mandate mail-in ballots, and allow ex-felons to vote federally.
The bill would also require certain issue advocacy groups to disclose the personal information of their donors to the government.
But the bill does not have enough support to reach the 60-vote threshold to clear the filibuster. If Schumer is successful in removing the filibuster, it would only take 51 Senators to pass the bill.
In addition, it would allow Democrats to pass whatever else the Biden administration asks for on a simple majority.
Republican ability to stall the Democrat agenda lies in the hands of Democrat Joe Manchin.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has come out in strong opposition to changing the filibuster, despite his own weakening of the filibuster to pass a debt ceiling increase just last month.
At the time, McConnell cited the move as a “one-time-only” change to the filibuster, but it appears as if the move has only motivated Schumer and the Democrats more to make permanent changes. McConnell scoffed at criticism from the move, but now, one month later he may be biting his tongue.

It would be great if the 25 or so Democrats that are retiring this election year would vote what their conscience and their constituents want instead of being a sheep for pelosi and schumer on bills coming up this year. They will still get their pensions.

When you look at EVERY single major problem in this country today – Soros name pops up as involved. Look at his history of trying to destroy the economies of France and England before succeeding in Venezuela. He is trying to do the same thing here right now.
