Gov. Brian Kemp Hold Press Conference Supporting Constitutional Carry

Atlanta, GA – Governor Brian Kemp held a press conference this week announcing his support for Constitutional Carry legislation.

Constitutional Carry is a simple concept that allows law-abiding gun owners to carry a firearm openly or concealed without a government permit.

At the conference, Kemp stated,

“I believe the United States Constitution grants the citizens of our state the right to carry a firearm without state government approval.”

A Constitutional Carry bill has been filed in the State Senate by freshman Senator Jason Anavitarte.

In a statement provided to Fox News, Anavitarte said

“I am proud to be leading the fight to bring Constitutional Carry to Georgia. Georgians should not need a permit to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights, defend themselves and protect their families. This law will keep safeguards in place to ensure that only law-abiding citizens can purchase and obtain a firearm while eliminating the bureaucratic red tape that infringes on Georgians’ constitutional rights. I look forward to carrying this bill across the finish line and having it signed into law.”

The legislation is gaining steam and has a strong potential of passing.

The National Association for Gun Rights’ Director of Political Operations Austin Hein says the real danger of the bill is the possibility it gets watered down in the Georgia House of Representatives.

“Georgia’s legislative leadership has been opposed to Constitutional Carry for years, the sudden change raises some red flags,” said Hein. “If Kemp truly supports the Second Amendment rights of his constituents, then he will make it clear to leaders in the House that he won’t accept compromise.”

Kemp’s public statements come following announcements of primary challengers, including former U.S. Senator David Perdue.

Perdue, whose record shows him to be a moderate, is attempting to run to the right of Kemp.

Many speculate Kemp is attempting to flex his conservative chops by pushing for the gold standard of gun rights legislation.

  1. Constitutional carry isn’t just the “gold standard” It’s the LAW and it’s the LAW in every state in this union . The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of this land. No state, municipal or local government within these united states may institute any law, rule,, regulation or other restriction which conflicts with Constitutional laws. Any elected representative in congress or within any state who attempts to violate or circumvent Constitutional law is in violation of their oath of loyalty to the Constitution of the United States and should be immediately removed from office.
