U.S. Mint Puts Communist Sympathizer Maya Angelou On Quarter

Washington, D.C. – a new U.S. quarter featuring famed poet and communist sympathizer Maya Angelou is now in circulation.

Angelou is most known for her poetry, notably, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, but now has the distinct honor of becoming the first black woman to be featured on the quarter. While she is widely viewed as simply an activist for minorities, she is on record giving troubling statements supporting communism and Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro.

She once wrote:

“Of course, Castro never had called himself white, so he was O.K. from the git. Anyhow, America hated Russians, and as black people often said, ‘Wasn’t no Communist country that put my grandpappa in slavery. Wasn’t no Communist lynched my poppa or raped my mamma.’”

While it is hard to make the argument Angelou was chosen for the quarter because of her communist sympathies, it cannot be ignored that her views did not preclude her from the honor.

In 2016, the U.S. House of Representatives named a post office after Angelou. Only nine members of Congress voted no, all Republicans: Reps. Mo Brooks of Alabama, Ken Buck of Colorado, Michael Burgess of Texas, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin, Andy Harris of Maryland, Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Alex Mooney of West Virginia, and Steven Palazzo of Mississippi.

“While Maya Angelou did many good things in her life, Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-5) did not believe it appropriate to name an American Post Office after a communist sympathizer and thereby honor a person who openly opposed America’s interest by supporting Fidel Castro and his regime of civil rights suppression, torture, and murder of freedom-loving Cubans,” a spokesperson for Brooks said in a statement.

The other eight Republicans gave similar reasoning.

While the story of nine Republicans voting no on Angelou’s post office made national news, the buzz clearly did not stop Angelou from getting more acclaim.

Biden’s appointed Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said,

“I’m very proud that these coins celebrate the contributions of some of America’s most remarkable women, including Maya Angelou.”

  1. What can you expect when the Nation is being run and destroyed by Communist Democrats in the year 2022. They are definitely Communist sympathizers!

  2. Even though she was a great poet and did some positive things, She was first of all a ‘COMMUNIST SYMPATHIZER’ and that alone should disqualify her for the honor on any type of AMERICAN currency or stamp or building.

  3. Horrible choice! Clearly her communist sympathizer side is clearly the dominant personality! Does not deserve to be honored with US Post Office name — OR –on any US currency!

  4. Yes. We redesigned our currency AND we had the chance to say something about our country — what we no longer value, and how we’ve regressed as a society, What the Communists would have done to ‘grandpappa, poppa and momma’ would have been far worse. But many Americans died to save them from random executions, programmed persecution and pogroms, and government-steered famine. This apparently blind woman is devoured by her racial fetish and demonstrates a pathetic ignorance of the depravity of global Communism.

  5. Why would we pick Maya Angelou to be on a US coin? I can think of many famous folks that would be better choices: Martin Luther King, Frederic Douglas, Rosa Parks, Jessie Owens, Muhammad Ali, Benjamin O. Davis (first black General), Dr. Charles Drew (pioneered blood plasma saving millions of lives), Duke Ellington, Katherine Johnson (NASA mathematician), Sidney Poitier, Booker Washington, and Thurgood Marshall to name just a few, all distinguished Americans with African American heritage.

  6. As a communist sympathizer and open supporter of Fidel Castro, she has morally exempted herself from any positive recognition in this country.
