The one thing that is undeniably true is that the United States has, since FDR, been moving inexorably left. Sometimes it goes slower (as under Reagan and Trump), other times faster (LBJ, Obama, and Biden).
But under every single president, the government has grown larger and more oppressive, spending at a rate that far outpaces population growth, and regulating everything up to and including speech inside our homes.
The political makeup of Congress had no effect on the trend. I was naive enough to believe that, in 1995, when the Republicans ended 50 years of Democrat control in the U.S. House and passed the most provisions of the Contract with America, a new day had dawned.
But nothing really changed. A few days after I was elected in 1998, I received a congratulatory call from Speaker Gingrich who also asked me if he could count on my vote in his quest to be reelected Speaker of the House. I said he could not.
He seemed stunned and asked me why not. I explained that since he had been elected Speaker, nothing had been done to reduce the budget, the regulatory burden, or to secure the border. He said, “Well, you just don’t know how things worked in D.C.”
I admitted that was true and that he might get my vote – but his question to me had been could he count on it, to which my answer remained no. Apparently, I was not the only one to respond in the negative as he chose not to quit Congress.
Going to Washington and actually seeing the sausage being made was enlightening, to say the least. It became clear that both political parties were comfortable with that leftward movement that was rationalized by the adage that, “when you rob Peter to pay Paul, you can always count on Paul’s vote.”
My hopes rose again when, in 2002, Republicans held the Presidency, the House, and the Senate. We finally held all the reins of government and there could be no more excuses.
When we didn’t even flirt with a conservative agenda, I became one of the Party’s and President’s most outspoken critics – especially on their immigration agenda. At one point, after continually being taken to the woodshed for those public criticisms from Tom Delay with no effect on my behavior, I was sent to the Speaker’s office.
I remember him telling me that I “had to get on the team.” I explained that I had been looking for the conservative team ever since I was elected but had not yet found it.
What I had found instead was an establishment swamp with politicians and bureaucrats of both parties who were so intransigent and powerful that they could thwart the hopes of any reformer. I asked him if he knew of such a team. He wasn’t amused.
When, by 2007, I realized I had probably burned every bridge in the U.S. House, and recognizing that I had developed a constituency outside of that body, I ran for the Republican nomination for President.
I did so in the hope that I could force the other candidates to at least utter the words “border security” before our campaign ran out of money. It wasn’t much, but it was all I could realistically hope for. And then, the greatest upset in American political history occurred when a non-swamp entrepreneur named Donald Trump was elected president – and I saw the trend line begin to change.
Although not a fiscal conservative, President Trump’s instincts – especially about the danger to our culture faced from massive immigration of folks who did not want to be Americans – put him in the crosshairs of the media, the Democrat, assorted globalist billionaires, and even the establishment Republicans.
When I saw this, I knew the road to reformation would be rocky. Indeed, it wasn’t just rocky; it was full of landmines on both sides of the road! In the end, not nearly as much reform was achieved as I had hoped for.
Now I have some hope again because it appears that Democrat excesses, combined with leadership so incompetent and corrupt, will lead once again to the Republicans taking control of all the reins of government that we relinquished 20 years ago.
A big question remains, however: will there be the will to buck the powerful political cartel of globalists, who will do anything to continue the worldwide march toward socialism and the tyranny it brings, in and out of government?
A hint about whether or not the tide has been turned will come after the Democrats are ousted in 2022 and the GOP chooses its leaders. If Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell are reelected, the socialist march to tyranny will only be slowed, not reversed.
If the new Republican majority chooses true American patriots instead, then we may have a chance to save ourselves and the world.

Too bad. But for the swamp, you would have made a great president. I know our nation has many like me who would like to see more like you in government. Problem is we’re all getting old and borrowing from an old adage, our young people are too slow in getting smart.

It is past time to invoke Article V and call for a Convention of States. While we are in this Convention we need to: Term Limit Congress. Require reforms in voting. Strip many of the troughs of public spending on the Federal level, returning power to the States and local government, including Education, Environment, Healthcare, Voting rights, spending and taxation, and re-establishing the individual rights of the Bill of Rights, while getting Immigration under control. Also, giving our military back its “back-bone”, setting English as the only and official language on all legal documents, and basically making it criminal to support any activity, propose any laws, or participate in any group that promotes actions in violation of the Constitution, hunt down and prosecute illegal immigrants and deport them (they are breaking our laws and basically invading our sovereignty.) No more trampling on the rights of people to worship God in accordance with their conscience, no more federal “mandates”. The federal government must be limited to its original position.
Depends on:
o Who we vote for office
o Join the fight IE parents in school board meetings
o protests
o rallies
o lawsuits on other side.
