US Census Reveals America’s “Border Crisis” Is On the Potomac, Not the Rio Grande

By: Tom Tancredo

Even the headline writers for conservative newspapers, newsletters, and blogs can’t quite get their arms around the new US Census data showing the explosive growth of the foreign-born population of the United States.

But the numbers themselves do not tell the whole story. The ongoing corruption of language used by the government to identify and count “immigrants” is designed to confuse and mollify both elected legislators and citizens. As any student of history knows, the corruption of language is the most powerful weapon in the arsenal of tyrants.

A recent report from the US Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey tells us that in November of 2021, the “immigrant population” in the U.S. hit 46.2 million, the highest number in American history. Perhaps more important than that number itself is this fact: That 46.2 million is the highest in 111 years as a percentage of the total US population.

But what do these numbers mean? We have had surges in immigration in our history and have survived. What is different now?

The difference is as much qualitative as quantitative: today’s immigrants, legal and illegal, are being told they do not need to assimilate and adopt American values. Instead, now it is America that must accommodate and adjust to the myriad cultures and incompatible — and often hostile– ideologies now flooding into a borderless nation.

The percentage of illegal aliens now living among the immigrant population is very likely at its highest point in American history, yet that exact number is either not known to the federal government, or if it is, it’s not being shared with the public in the US Census Bureau reports.

But let’s not blame the clerks at the U.S. Census Bureau for the lack of clarity or accuracy in official government documents pertaining to immigration. The lack of precision and honesty in how the government counts and classifies different types of “immigrants” is a matter of design, not sloppy bookkeeping.

Tens of Millions of foreign citizens arrive legally each year as tourists, foreign students, businessmen, and so forth. India and China lead the way in sending their best and brightest students to America’s top universities.

Now, consider: What if their scheduled departures are no longer monitored or regulated? What if any foreign-born person who enters our country on a lawful visa is allowed to STAY indefinitely? And what if these “visitors” are allowed to vote alongside American citizens in many of the nation’s largest cities? Do we call that an invasion? Or is it really national suicide?

Patriots need to understand that the fight over border security is not really about controlling and curtailing unlawful entry into the United States. The battle is over the meaning of “citizen” and the pillars of constitutional government.

What does all of this mean? It means we are witnessing and experiencing a “progressive” transition away from an America where citizens are proud of our nation’s achievements and  constitutional liberties to a very different country, one populated by — and increasingly being governed by —  “global citizens” who uphold “global principles of social justice.”

Unless this process is reversed, the United States Constitution will become a mere footnote in history.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the theater?
