Inner Thoughts From a Conservative College Student

How Can We Love The Enemy?

The past couple of years has been a wild ride and it has sparked quite a bit of emotion. Emotions like loneliness because of quarantines, remorse from COVID, disappointment from elections, and worst of all, anger.

Society has been so divided by its frustrations. We’ve seen buildings burned, people shot in public, history defaced and it’s all disputed over disagreements.

Yes, there are great things that have happened over the past couple of years like the strengthening of neighborly relationships, or that constitutional carry is gaining momentum to name a few, but the conflicts that arose in society back then still affect us today.

I know if you’re reading this then you’re probably like me and hold a grudge against some of the radical movements over the past year and a half. But I’m beginning to feel like the hatred is eating at me. Do I disagree with them? YES. Do I like what happened? NO! But, should I love my enemies? Yes, because Jesus calls me to. He says:

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Mathew 5:43-48

So, how do we do this? It is not done by compromising our beliefs, rather by how we engage in conversation with them. Do not go into the conversation guns ablaze and ready to ridicule the opposing party about their past. Tit-for-tat arguments get us nowhere.

Instead, listen to them and try to find out where they are coming from without compromising our own beliefs. It helps me to remember we do not have the power to fix nationwide problems in one conversation.

After all, real change in America takes place in the voting booth. That is how we can do this peacefully and yet love them despite our conflict.

Loving the enemy is awfully difficult especially if the conflict is at the root of a fundamental belief. However, it is a much better way of going about fighting for what you believe in without going to the extremities of dissension.

We can be better than our enemies simply by treating them better than they may deserve, for example, by voting to protect them from living under socialist-tyrannical rule.

Additionally, loving your enemies can be done simply by understanding we won’t get along with our enemies. So instead of doing the same thing they did to us back to them, let’s take the high road and leave the discussion altogether. We can fight and win in the polls without giving into evil.

So, my last question stands: Why not knock off the crazy riots and outrage, and focus on loving our enemies by simply voting to restore freedom for ALL?

  1. Your statement is very well composed and has a lot of truth in it. I do disagree with treating the radicals with kindness and trying to understand their ideology. We Conservatives have sat back silently for too long. The radicals do not listen to we the people. They do what they want. Their main goal is never ending power and greed. They need a dose of their own medicine. I am not talking about physical fighting as war or even rowdy protests. We the people need to become activists and involved with our government to regain our Country and our freedom which is vanishing step by step from radicals and globalists. The radicals are violating our Constitution and our laws and get away with it. They are taking away our freedom of speech and continually punish the Conservatives but not their own kind, We need to obstruct them every way possible, and follow their methods, but abide by the rule of law. Voting is the answer, but not if they are allowed to continually cheat, and we know they have and will continue to cheat. Our vote should be educated so we choose wisely and only citizens with ID should be allowed to vote. We also need to regain control over big tech and the media with their lies and propaganda. We the people need to be watch dogs, aware of what is going on and communicate with our representatives, demanding they work for we the people and not for themselves and their pocketbooks.

    1. Hey Carolyn! I really appreciate your feedback. There are a lot of valid points in here that I agree with! Do you mind if I use this for one of our next articles?

    2. Right on! For FAR TOO LONG, Republicans have turned the other cheek, with a “Kick ME” sign attached to their backs, which the EVIL cabal of Liberals/Socialists/Communists/Fascists/Marxists/Progressives/Democrats/Educrats/FakeNewsMedia/GenYers/GenZers/GenAers/WOKE BigBusiness/WOKE BigTech/Biden/BidenAdministration/WOKE Military Leaders/WOKE PENTAGON/RINOs/Establishment Republicans have ALL RUN RIGHT OVER any and ALL opposition.

We “chose” to limit the battles we fought over, rolling over and giving in to much of the TERRIBLE AGENDA of the LEFT, and only fighting the “big things”, with too few successes!

NO MORE, FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE! Thank GOD for Donald J. Trump!
