Juneau, AK — The Biden administration suspended oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as gas prices soar around the country.
The decision reverses approvals made by the Trump administration during former President Donald Trump’s last days in office.
Trump’s administration issued 10-year leases for approximately 430,000 acres of land in the ANWR. The refuge is nearly 19.3 million acres in total.
Biden issued an executive order on his first day in office temporarily banning the leases. Now, Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland suspended all activities in the region, claiming “legal deficiencies” with the current program and “inadequacy” of the previous review.
What that really means is the Biden administration is making moves to further regulate and restrict the oil and gas energy to appease the environmental activists in their base that do not make up a majority of Americans.
In fact, a recent poll of 1200 registered voters showed that 35 percent of Americans are unwilling to spend even $1 on climate change. Another 15 percent said they would only go as high as $10 per month.
News flash for the Biden administration — that’s 50 percent of Americans who are unwilling to spend even $10 per month on climate change. With gas prices skyrocketing due to Biden’s oil and gas policies aimed at combatting climate change, Americans are on track to pay well over $10 per month more due to gas prices alone.
In addition to the economic impacts of this decision, it will further reduce American energy independence. Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin are certainly laughing about the United State’s weakening energy independence while they drill for oil with much less regard for the environment than the American companies who were granted these leases.
The fact of the matter is that drilling on two percent of land in the ANWR will have little to no effect on the refuge while providing significant benefits to the American people.
Regardless, sound economic policy is sitting the bench so Biden can virtue signal to a tiny fraction of his base.

When gas and oil prices go up everything goes up. I was an over-the-road trucker for quite a while. When I started Diesel was 60 cents a gal. Took about 400 gallons to go coast to coast. That was $240. Diesel here now is $3 a gallon. In fuel alone it costs $1200 to make the same trip I used to make for $240. Who is going to pay the difference? The consumer. The trucker can’t. So everything he hauls has to go up. If diesel goes up to $4, then the cost is $1600 for a trip that used to cost $240. That’s just fuel, I’m not counting tires, oil changes and repairs to the truck and trailer. Trains run off of diesel, buses use diesel, planes use gas and jet fuel. They all are going to go up when the price of fuel goes up. They have to or they will go broke. They have no other choice. The consumer is the one that ends up paying the difference. If you doubt what I say, just watch the price of everything go up when the price of fuel goes up. Biden should be doing everything he can to make the price go down, not up.
