Trump Legal Team Responds to Senate Questioning Constitutionality of Trial

Seattle, WA — A week after Senator Rand Paul called for a vote to gauge whether the Senate felt it had jurisdiction to impeach Donald Trump as a private citizen – Trump’s legal team is making the same argument.

The outstanding legal question comes from the legal requirement for jurisdiction laid out in Article 3 of the U.S. Constitution.

Trump’s legal team asserts that nothing in Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution allows the U.S. Senate to impeach people who are not public figures.

This belief is held overwhelmingly by Senate Republicans, which ensures that regardless of what actions are taken, Donald Trump will likely not be convicted of any wrongdoing.

A similar situation happened during the impeachment of William Belknap, the War Secretary under President Grant, who was found not guilty after a similar question to that raised by Senator Rand Paul was voted on.

Trump’s team also asserted that he is not responsible for lawless actions taken by others, nor did he explicitly encourage unlawful behavior.

According to some legal experts, the next action will likely be the Trump legal team seeking a court order stopping any vote from taking place until the question of jurisdiction is answered.

This is not a high priority and will likely establish a long-standing precedent. If the court chooses to hear such a case, it will likely not be resolved for some time.

Stay tuned for more information on this developing story.
