Democrats and Establishment Republicans Rally Behind Liz Cheney

Cheyenne, WY Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney has made plenty of enemies over the last few years, but now her friends are becoming more apparent.

Congresswoman Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, quickly rose to leadership roles in the Republican Party after her initial election to the United States House of Representatives in 2016. She currently serves as Chair of the House Republican Conference, meaning she leads the Republicans in the House.

Up until last year, Cheney was among the favorites to become the next Speaker of the House if and when the Republican Party takes back the House, but now her leadership position – and even future in office – is in doubt.

Some conservatives are looking to remove Cheney from her leadership position. This includes Freedom Caucus chair Jim Jordan and Republican Study Committee Chair Jim Banks. This is not without cause, either. Over the course of the last year, Cheney has taken public stands against conservative Republicans and President Trump.

Notably, Cheney publicly supported and contributed to Todd McMurtry, who ran an unsuccessful primary campaign against one of the most conservative members of Congress, Thomas Massie (KY-04). Late in the campaign, McMurtry was exposed for racist tweets. Congressman Massie defended his seat with more than 80% of the vote.

Cheney’s endorsement of McMurtry was one of many issues that caused a massive argument in a closed-door GOP meeting.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg with Cheney’s inner-party clashes. Cheney grabbed national headlines when she voted to impeach President Donald Trump in January. This vote alone has caused two conservative Wyoming State Legislators, Sen. Anthony Bouchard and Rep. Chuck Gray, to announce primary challenges against her.

With mounting opposition from conservatives, what may be more telling in regards to Cheney are the friends she is making along the way.

Democrats, including California Democrat Congressman Ted Lieu, and longtime establishment Republicans like Sen. Mitt Romney and Bill Kristol have been making public statements supporting Congresswoman Cheney, including the use of #IStandWithLiz, which recently trended nationally.

Sen. Romney, himself, was recently booed at the Utah Republican Convention for many of the same moves.

Other establishment GOP leaders have also recently come out of the woodwork in support of Cheney, including former Speakers John Boehner and Paul Ryan, the latter of whom hosted a high-dollar fundraiser in the D.C. area for her benefit.

(Notice how Cheney’s campaign office is based in Virginia and not in Wyoming, the state she represents)

The future of Cheney’s political career may be in jeopardy, but many of her friends are big money allies who may be able to keep her career alive.

  1. Which so-called “Established Republicans” support Liz Chaney, I want to know, for I have the right to decide who I can trust in the REPUBLICAN PARTY!

    1. Just what group is the “Established Republicans?” This is just one reason I don’t give money to the Republican Party. I give to individuals running for election. The mentioned group sounds like they are all RINO’S which we need to get rid of them. Including Liz Cheney.

    2. Not established, but establishment. Washington establishment = swamp, regardless of whether Republican establishment or Democrat establishment. Virtually all Democrat members of House or Senate are Washington establishment, Republicans not so many, but nevertheless too many. Washington establishment members were also Never Trumpers. Some prominent Republican establishment types are Alexander, Capito, Portman, McCain (gone), Toomey, and Romney (not necessarily a complete list),

  2. The only allegiance Liz has is to the Constitution, laws of the lands, & constituents. Her voters have the final say, period. Mittens received received a warm welcome in Utah.
If you two want to be a demonRAT, change parties. Murkowski is a turncoat as well. She will lose the next election. Voters are pi$$ed.

    1. Liz Cheney exemplifies what is wrong with the Republican Party, a backstabber and turncoat who doesn’t stand for much. She should join the Democratic Party. Anyone who flirts with the garbage Democrats is rubbish by any measure.

  3. In my view, Trump alienated the Bush family when he humiliated and defeated Jeb in the primary. And Dick Cheney has been a loyal partner to the Bush family since he served as 41’s Secretary of Defense and later as 43’s Vice President. I believe Liz relied on her House popularity to deflect criticism for zealously demonstrating loyalty to her father. She should have followed her constituents.

  4. She, Her Father, & his Boss….are TRAITORS……
the bastard george w. bush should be tried in the World Court of Justice for HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION. After 9/11 he went after saddam hussein & gadaphi, of Libya…..for NO REASON, & messed up the world. Why is NOBODY blaming him? Or are your memories all DRIED UP?
he has upset, the structure of the world. GEORGE W. BUSH MUST BE TRIED & EXECUTED…. PERIOD. dont get me wrong….. I VOTED FOR HIM, TWICE….. but, I WAS WRONG…..
THIS IS A BAST*RD, who should be executed…… I AM NOT MINCING MY WORDS………..
under sadam hussein & gadhaphi, the arab terrorists, would have been checked….. There would have not been a 9/11….. Fellow americans…..what is wrong with you guys?
    Think,….Think….Think……
GET RID OF GEORGE W. BUSH………….

  5. It amazes me that the “establishment” “republicans” support condemned-o-crats… NOT!

Drain the swamp! President Trump really needed some better advice on who to select for various jobs. He was so not involved with politics he had no clue and asked for advice from some of the wrong people. If he had the right people in place, there would not have been any issues with the election, or at least a lot less than there was.
