Biden Administration to Reopen Facility Criticized for Keeping Migrant Teens in ‘Cages’

Washington, D.C. — In part due to a surge of illegal immigrants on the U.S.-Mexico border, the Biden administration has announced its plans to reopen a child detention facility in Texas.

Over the last few years, this facility was criticized by many Democrats, including Joe Biden, for keeping unaccompanied minors in “cages.”

In fact, Donald Trump ordered the closing of the facility himself in July 2019 after criticism from media, political opponents, and human rights groups.

With no alternative, the Trump administration from 2019 onward was forced to deport children without adult supervision due to the lack of facilities to house them.

Now faced with the same decision, the Biden administration has reversed course and is reopening the facility Biden himself had criticized in last year’s debates.

The Texas facility was identified as a need and funded during the Bush administration but wasn’t opened until Obama was president, at which point children were first kept at the facility.

This history leaves many experts in immigration policy to question whether or not Biden has a solution to the growing migrant crisis or if he is going to return to the same policies implemented when he was Vice President.
