Washington, D.C. — On May 2, 2021, the mainstream media reported that Theresa Bragg, age 30, shot and killed 26-year-old John Laverette following an argument over their two children.
However, a closer look at the facts reveals a very different picture – one that the anti-Second Amendment mainstream media was not interested in telling.
According to a GoFundMe campaign set up by Bragg’s friend, Paulina Jones, Bragg had been the victim of violent domestic abuse at the hands of John Leverette for 12 years.
“To the public, this man painted himself to be everyone’s friend, ‘the good guy’. But behind closed doors, he would constantly threaten to kill her if she didn’t do everything he says,” Jones said.
Jones continued, “He would repeatedly punch her in her head, choke her until she could hardly breathe, and tell her again, he will kill her if she ever goes to the police. All of us. Her friends. Have cried and begged her to leave. Move away. However, she would cry and say that he told her his mother works for the IRS and that he would always be able to find her. For 12 years he tried his best to isolate her. Take all of her income. And beat her whenever he felt like taking his anger out on her. I have called the police the last time he beat her and begged them to do something. To help her because she’s too scared to call them! And they told me there is nothing they can do.”
According to Jones, Leverette had come to Bragg’s house and attacked her, and Bragg, fearing for her life, reacted in self-defense.
News reports and the River Rouge Prosecutor’s Office state that his name was John “Laverette” and that he was 26 years old. However, his name was actually John Leverette, according to Jones and the victim’s Facebook page.
Based on court records, it appears that he was 39 years old and had a lengthy criminal record. Leverette was convicted or pled guilty to multiple drug possession/trafficking charges and was tried for armed robbery, carjacking, and possessing a weapon as a felon.
According to his social media presence, he appeared to be an active gang member. His Facebook friends announced they would be hosting a balloon release memorial for him, saying, “Please wear BLUE and we’ll be releasing blue balloons, CRIP in peace Sir!!!”
We reached out to the National Foundation for Gun Rights for comment. NFGR raised over $50,000 for the legal defense and assistance of Kyle Rittenhouse and his family, the 17-year-old who was forced to defend his life with a rifle during the Kenosha, WI riots last summer.
“We are still researching the incident at this point,” an NFGR spokesman said. “But we will say this: everyone has a right to defend themselves.”
Bragg is being charged with first-degree murder with premeditation and one count of a weapons felony firearm.
“It is way too often that women become victims of domestic abuse and can’t find help or any resources to leave,” said Jones on the GoFundMe page. “A PPO is NOT enough. A piece of paper does not stop a violent person from entering your home. We need to create a better system that truly can protect battered women. Their lives matter!”

My prayers go out to this single mother whose life was made a living hell by John Leverette. I lived with an abusive spouse too and found a local lawyer who had defended many women . He issued a removal from the home and enforced the stay away order. I was able to change my locks and ask the county (rural) sheriffs to patrol; they did. Thank God for supportive friends, legal counsel, and law enforcement. May MS Bragg find herself the lawyer from Hell to defend her.
We have become a country where we defend the criminal and punish the victim. Tme for america to reintroduce sanity and remove those from power who have a far different agenda.
If anyone lives off the spoils of a thief they can expect the treatment they get. It appears she had enough of the abuse and alleviated her problem.
Charged with murder? In AZ she would be given a medal. But DC is a bastion of communism, fascism, violent gangs and black panthers, so I guess the extreme radical libtards in charge would rather she be in prison than a dangerous criminal be eliminated.
