After ‘long-fought battle’ by the grassroots, Texas to become the 21st Constitutional Carry State

Austin, TX — The Texas Legislature just passed House Bill 1927, Constitutional Carry, and now the bill is on to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk for him to sign.

Governor Abbott has already indicated that he intends to sign HB 1927, and sources say that may happen as soon as tomorrow or Wednesday.

Texas will be the 21st Constitutional Carry state and the 5th this year alone. Five states in one year is a record, the previous being four in 2018. Utah, Montana, Iowa, and Tennessee all passed earlier this year.

Chris McNutt, the Executive Director of Texas Gun Rights, said, “This has been a long-fought battle, but I’m excited to say that Texas has finally joined the rest of pro-gun America by passing Constitutional Carry. Anti-gun Republicans have been dragging their feet for years, but now the pro-gun grassroots has dragged them into action.”

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, in particular, has been hesitant to move on Constitutional Carry for years, but recently he changed his tune. Just last month, Patrick declared Constitutional Carry ‘dead on arrival’ in the Senate. Today, that same Senate passed the bill 17-13.

Republicans have had strong majorities in the Texas legislature for years, but until this year, even a vote on the bill was rare.

“Plain and simple, Republicans weren’t willing to take a stand. It wasn’t until we started banging on the door demanding Constitutional Carry that the politicians finally started to listen,” said McNutt.

Texas Gun Rights and Lone Star Gun Rights have been working to pass Constitutional Carry in Texas for years and, in many ways, were the lone voices for the bill. The National Rifle Association (NRA), for example, has only recently joined in on pushing for the bill.

Now with Texas joining the Constitutional Carry movement, the question is what states will come next. Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia all have pending Constitutional Carry legislation, so there still may be more states added this year.

Even Florida and Pennsylvania, which have Republican legislatures, may be inclined to follow Texas in the coming years.

    1. Strap on your gun in CA, NY or NJ and tell the cops what you just said, then let us know how that works out for you.

  1. We’ve had constitutional carry in AZ for years and all the hand wringing and horror stories made up about it proved untrue in any way, but libtards ignore all success stories so they can keep on hand wringing.

  2. It does my heart good to see SHOT GUNS and rifles back in the rear windows of our
TEXAS TRUCKS – I enjoy watching those walk in to diners with their firearms
Strapped to their wastes – I carry and feel safer with those that carry next to me !!
It’s our GOD GIVEN right to protect ourselves and loved ones 🙏🏻

  3. If you want to carry in another state with reciprocity, you’ll still need a Texas LTC. Also, the law provides for businesses to have 3006 and 3007 signs as they can now and also can have “only licensed” handgun signs, all of which will carry the weight of felony law behind them. I regularly travel to two states that have handgun license laws and reciprocity with Texas, so I plan to continue renewing my license.
