The Death of the Lincoln Project

Washington, D.C. — Lincoln Project co-founder Steve Schmidt is the latest high profile member to resign from the anti-Trump group.

Schmidt is stepping down following sexual misconduct allegations against fellow co-founder, John Weaver.

Twenty-one men have now come forward alleging that Weaver was using his position of power to solicit sex in exchange for career advancement. One of the men was 14 years old at the time of the alleged misconduct.

A full federal investigation has been launched on Weaver for the alleged misconduct, but the question in the meantime is whether or not the Lincoln Project survives the heat. So far, things are looking grim for them.

The Lincoln Project built its foundations on a “Republican” anti-Trump agenda – citing corruption and an overall lack of integrity in the Trump Administration. Ironic, given the Lincoln Project is now embroiled in a whole host of corruption scandals.

Independent journalist, Glenn Greenwald, also reported today that Rick Wilson, another Lincoln Project co-founder, pocketed large sums of money that went to the Lincoln Project, including around $65,000 he raised for an Anti-Trump movie on GoFundMe – which never saw the light of day.

More serious financial scandals could be in the pipeline as well. Read the below excerpt from an Associated Press article on the financial reports coming from the Lincoln Project:

“For the collection of GOP consultants and former officials, being anti-Trump was becoming very good for business. Of the $90 million Lincoln Project has raised, more than $50 million has gone to firms controlled by the group’s leaders….

Since its creation, the Lincoln Project has raised $90 million. But only about a third of the money, roughly $27 million, directly paid for advertisements that aired on broadcast and cable or appeared online, during the 2020 campaign, according to an analysis of campaign finance disclosures and data from the ad tracking firm Kantar/CMAG.

That leaves tens of millions of dollars that went toward expenses like production costs, overhead — and exorbitant consulting fees collected by members of the group.”

From the Associated Press

In short, Wilson, Weaver, Schmidt, and the other Lincoln execs pocketed millions of dollars from their contributors. Basically, a massive Ponzi scheme to make the Anti-Trump activists rich.

Although they consistently tried to paint themselves as conservatives for Biden, the Lincoln Project was always more aligned with the D.C. Swamp types and bureaucrats rather than the grassroots peoples they claimed to represent.

The complete death of the organization may be at hand. Scandals are piling up by the minute, and founding members are dropping like flies. Organizations rarely survive this type of bad press. Some may find themselves in prison for their parts, as well.

It may not be long before this house – now divided – falls.
