Super Bowl LV Failed to Top 100 Million Viewers, Worst Ratings Since 2007

Tampa Bay, FL — The Super Bowl LV failed to top 100 million viewers, giving it the worst ratings since 2007, when the Indianapolis Colts played the Chicago Bears.

Only 96.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decimate a flat Kansas City Chiefs team 31-9. This marks the second time in three years the Super Bowl failed to eclipse 100 million viewers. The 2019 Super Bowl only garnered 98.2 million viewers.

On the bright side, Puppy Bowl ratings increased by 14 percent!

The drop in viewers occurred despite an increase in people who opted to stream the game, rather than watching on a traditional cable or satellite network.

Bucs Quarterback Tom Brady captured the MVP nomination and his seventh Super Bowl win.

The ratings demonstrate how badly the NFL is struggling with viewership, considering many people did not attend Super Bowl parties or bars due to COVID-19 and government-mandated gathering limits.

Ratings are dropping as the NFL, and their partners, focus more and more on social issues.

Many people criticized companies that produced commercials focused almost entirely on social issues. Some, like Jeep’s “Re-United States of America” commercial, alienated people on both the left and the right.
