Professional Sports Teams Are Working Overtime to Alienate Fans

Fans love their teams, why not just let them express their fandom?

Kansas City, MO – Professional sports teams are working overtime to alienate fans. We’ll admit it: here at the Citizen Press, we like sports. We love watching sports. We like talking about sports. We like reading about sports. Sports and competition, we feel, are very American. So why are all these teams and athletes doing so much to alienate all of us?

Is this just about the disrespect of athletes kneeling for the National Anthem? No, it’s not – this is about a deeply rooted sense of entitlement combined with folding to the politically correct “Cancel Culture.” Sports, especially professional sports, are nothing without their fans. At what point to fans join the “Cancel Culture” and no longer support their teams by attending games, buying merchandise, listening on the radio, and, most importantly, watching on television?

In our [virtual] Press Room, we have a wide swath of teams that we’re fans of at both the college and professional levels. Especially with the China Virus shutdowns, we all crave some normalcy. This involves watching Baseball, Football (college and Pro), Basketball (college and Pro), and of course – HOCKEY (eh!). With all of this Black Lives Matter protesting, white people shaming and disrespecting America, it’s becoming next to impossible to support our teams. Hockey seems to be the only sport where the players still stand for the National Anthem(s).

We need a break from the politics and the lockdown, can’t they just give us back sports without the politics? If they don’t, and it doesn’t seem like they will, we will “Cancel” watching and supporting our teams. In fact, many of us already have. If you want to make a statement to this multi-billion dollar sports industry, we suggest you do the same.

So, what is our latest outrage? Three things, one is old news. The other two are relatively fresh and maybe will throw on a fourth for good measure.

The old news is one of the oldest and storied franchises in Professional Football has changed their name from the Redskins to the “Washington Football Team.” Really?!?! We think we’re all adults here, and we’ve survived eighty years with this as the team’s name, plus five Professional Football Championships (3 Superbowls).

We shouldn’t be totally surprised. First, this is PC Washington, DC. Their Professional Basketball Team changed their name from the “Bullets” to the “Wizards.” Wizards may be titles for leadership in the KKK, but don’t tell them that. We’re offended that people are offended. Grow up and suck it up.

Let’s move to the Left Coast, where the Los Angeles Lakers Basketball team wore Anti-Make America Great Again (MAGA) hats to make a political statement before their game against the Portland Trail Blazers (guess they had to appease the protesters).

LeBron’s anti-Trump political statement

Professional sports teams are working overtime to alienate fans.

We’re not fans of the Lakers’ star LeBron James, since he loves the commies in China. We fully admit that we were pretty happy that the heavily-favored Lakers lost game one of their playoff series after wearing the hats. Maybe they should focus on the game and not politics.

The NBA is the worst offender on kneeling for the National Anthem. If you’re looking to boycott, start there.

Speaking of commies and totalitarian rule. The defending Superbowl Champs think they can’t alienate one of the country’s most passionate fan bases. We’re talking about the Kansas City Chiefs. They are banning the wearing of Native American war paint, headdresses and possibly banning the “Arrowhead Chop” at their games. If you’ve seen a Chiefs home game on TV, we’re not sure how they’ll enforce this. We are confident that this is going to anger a lot of passionate fans.

Will the Chiefs’ crackdown, be the start of the anti-PC revolution? We sure hope so, but we also think it will be hard because the team ended its long Superbowl drought last year. Plus, they have a pretty stacked team when healthy.

The fourth for good measure has a COVID overlay. College football players are petitioning to play this season. Led by Justin Fields of Ohio State. Let these adults make the decision to play or not. Many of these players have their futures at stake, especially those who have next-level potential. They all want to get to the NFL, so they can kneel and disrespect our country.

Professional sports teams are working overtime to alienate fans. We are really sick of it. How about these over-paid athletes just play the games and shut up with the politics. Let’s Make Sports Great Again; we need it!

What do you think? Will you boycott these teams because of politics and policies? Do you think hurting them in the pocketbook will send a message? Write your comments below and on social media!
