Michigan Worst Job Losses in U.S. Amidst Gov. Whitmer’s 14-week Lockdown

Lansing, MI — Michigan suffered the worst job losses in the U.S. amidst Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s 14-week lockdown, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The BLS reported a 64,400 decrease in employment for the month of December.

Whitmer’s latest government-mandated shutdown began all the way back in November. Michigan’s unemployment rate jumped up to 7.5 percent from October to December. It boasts the 11th highest unemployment rate in the U.S.

Hawaii, Nevada, and California claim the top three spots, with unemployment rates over nine percent.

The embattled governor finally eased restrictions on restaurants last week. However, they are only allowed to open at 25 percent capacity with a mandated closing time of 10:00 pm.

These operating parameters will keep many restaurants closed.

Restaurants across the country reported that they could not afford to operate at the 50 percent capacity limit imposed by other governors and health departments. The fact is, operating costs for restaurants are so high that most must fill more than 50 percent of their tables to meet those costs.
