Washington, D.C. — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refuses to give Americans a timeline for when she will send the newly passed article of impeachment to the Senate.
The Democratic party is apparently in a disagreement about when to send the article of impeachment against President Donald Trump for “incitement of insurrection” to the Senate for a trial.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) wants to begin immediately. Other Democrats, like Pelosi, want to hold off on beginning a trial.
The Democrats who wish to wait are concerned that their overzealous impeachment of Trump will consume the first days of Joe Biden’s presidency. Considering the divisiveness of the move to impeach Trump with less than two weeks left in his term, Democrats are likely shit out of luck on that front.
Any move to postpone sending the article of impeachment to the Senate is a disservice to the American people.
If Pelosi delays the article of impeachment, she will undermine a key argument put forward by Democrats to remove Trump. In fact, Pelosi herself said that Trump needed to be removed from office immediately because he was a danger to the country. She even called on Vice President Mike Pence to remove Trump from office with the 25th Amendment.
Democrats (and 10 Republicans) put themselves in quite the pickle by voting for this article of impeachment against Trump.
The Senate is responsible for confirming all of Biden’s cabinet and national security picks. If an impeachment trial for Trump begins, these will be delayed. The Senate is obligated to begin impeachment proceedings immediately once they receive articles of impeachment.
Pelosi told reporters they would “be the first to know” when she sends the article of impeachment to the Senate.
For now, Americans remain in the dark while the ruling class in Congress plays political games.
