Chicago, IL — A total of 100 people were shot over the long 4th of July weekend in Chicago — 18 of them are dead.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago experienced another harrowing weekend of death and violence from Friday through Monday.
ABC7 reported that between “Friday at 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, at least 100 people have been shot.”
Five children under the age of 13 and two Chicago Police Department officers were shot.
Over the same period last year, 87 people were shot, and 17 died of their wounds. The 13 additional shooting victims marks a significant increase over last year, despite Lightfoot’s false claims that violent crime is decreasing in Chicago.
The CPD canceled days off for all 12,000 officers in the department and scheduled them for 12-hour workdays throughout the weekend. The CPD focused its efforts on 15 violence-prone areas.
Chicago Police Superintendent David O. Brown tweeted, “Our officers continue to work tirelessly to keep our city safe. As of today, #CPD has recovered over 6,100 guns: a 26% increase from the same period last year. I commend our officers for their continued hard work during these challenging times for law enforcement.”
Despite these efforts, violence continues to plague Chicago. Through July 5, 379 people have been killed in Chicago in 2021.
On Tuesday, Brown stated, “No one else would do the brave and courageous work the men and women of the Chicago Police Department do every day. There are too many violent offenders and too little consequences in our courts. There are too many illegal guns in our city.”
Chicago has some of the most strict gun laws in the country, yet, there are still “too many illegal guns” in the city. Clearly, those strict gun laws are not working.
Something has to give in Chicago for real change to occur. Under the current Democrat-controlled strategy, it does not look like it will be violent criminals.

Chicago always have been a breeding ground for tugs and criminals, certain groups of people are treated like they are rare species.If you try to correct them you are racist. Law enforement is very restrain due to corrupted politcian and court system. go bless those cops that have to take that crap day in and day out .to all police officers when you go out on a call say a prayer for yourself and your family and kids

With Gun Laws in both the city and state being some of the strictest in the country why do you suppose the crime rate is so much higher there then, let’s say Texas where we even have carry many people who Open and Concealed Carry? Here is a thought, perhaps it isn’t the Gun that is Killing people in Chicago but Criminals that should have been locked up long ago and who should have been kept locked up that are killing people; just a thought. The other thing causes me to wonder about organizations like BLM. It seems that Black Lives Matter to everyone but Blacks. I would be willing to bet that if someone were to check out these shootings and killings you will find that in 9 out of 10 will have been committed by a Black Person against another Black Person. Perhaps this isn’t really about the Police Department or it’s Officers but about the Black Community.
That is what happens when you have “ Fruit and Nuts” running the city . All of the criminals have guns and therefore commit crimes . They don’t want to increase their police, they want to defund Law Enforcement, so crime and murders are rampant ! If police do try and do something, the criminals get a slap on the wrist !
