Washington, D.C. — The American flag is a symbol of freedom and liberty around the world — even in communist Cuba.
Protesters took to the streets of Cuba in opposition to the brutal communist government. When they did, they carried the American flag with them.
This isn’t the first time the American flag was used to protest a communist government. Back in 2019, protesters in Hong Kong flew the American flag and even sang the Star-Spangled Banner in opposition to Chinese oppression.
This fact deserves a far greater acknowledgment than a classic “U — S — A” chant (though it would be appropriate).
People around the world view the United States as a uniquely free country where they can pursue the American dream. As such, the American flag is representative of freedom to oppressed people around the world.
Despite this, many liberals and socialists in the U.S. view the American flag in a negative light if they do not outright despise it.
This Twitter user pointed out the contrast between young liberals on college campuses and the Cubans calling for freedom from their communist government.
Ben Shapiro took to Twitter to call out the socialists in the United States who refuse to speak up for the people facing “dictatorial oppression.”
Representative Jim Jordan pointed out the fact that some U.S. Olympic athletes hold less respect for the American flag than protesters in Cuba and Hong Kong.
