Washington, D.C. — U.S. Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is “unnecessary” at the start of House Judiciary Committee hearings.
Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) requested that the Judiciary Committee recite the Pledge before hearings.
Nadler spoke in opposition to the request saying, “um, it’s unnecessary.”
Gaetz made the request hoping it would be a unifying and patriotic moment.
“We’re all aware that in these times it’s important for the country to see members of Congress working together on some things, and while I know we can deal with divisive issues in the committee, uh, it would be my hope we could start every committee with a great unifying, patriotic moment.”

The House Judiciary GOP tweeted a clip of the exchange between Gaetz and Nadler.
The Democrats’ disrespectful response to Gaetz’ request for unity did not end there. Multiple Democrats appeared to mock the request to recite the Pledge of Allegiance on hot mics while the committee hearing was broadcast on YouTube.
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) asked, “how many times a day should I do that?” in an apparent mockery of both the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer.
Another unidentified Democrat continued the mockery, suggesting they “do it at least every hour.”
Cohen went on to joke that “in the first grade we had something like this,” and another Democrat thought it was prudent to joke about how they used to practice hiding under their desk for a nuclear threat.
You cannot make this up. Democrats in Congress likened reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the futility of hiding under a desk from a nuclear bomb.
Apparently, patriotism and unity are not important to the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee.

Anybody who represents the people of the United States and does not honor the privilege for reciting the pledge of allegiance should step down. They don’t belong in a leadership role of this country. The pledge of allegiance is not only necessary, it is an honor that should be cherished. I don’t care if you have to say it 100 times a day.
