Lisa Murkowski Challenger Gets Trump Endorsement

Juneau, AK — Kelly Tshibaka, a candidate for United States Senate in Alaska, has just received an endorsement from President Trump.

Tshibaka is challenging Sen. Lisa Murkowski for her seat. Murkowski is viewed as one of the most moderate Republicans in office and often voted against Donald Trump. Now, that track record may come back to bite her.

Trump throwing his support behind Tshibaka could be a game-changer in this race. Trump safely won Alaska last year over Biden, and the state has shown to be highly favorable of the former President.

Early polling shows that Tshibaka already has a 15% lead on Murkowski, who is polling at around the same level as the Democrat candidate with 17% of the vote.

This isn’t the first time Murkowski has faced pressure from the conservative wing of the Alaska Republican Party. In 2010, Murkowski actually lost her bid for the Republican nominee to Joe Miller, who ran as the tea party conservative.

Murkowski later won her seat back as a statewide write-in candidate. Her candidacy was well funded by moderate mega-donors, but winning statewide as a write-in is no easy feat, regardless.

Tshibaka does have a set of advantages Miller didn’t have, the Trump endorsement being the most prominent. With Trump’s opposition cemented, Murkowski could be facing an uphill battle to retain her seat.
