Defense Secretary Miller Announced Drawdown to 2,500 Troops in Afghanistan and Iraq

Madison, WI – Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller announced a drawdown to 2,500 troops each in Afghanistan and Iraq, delivering on Trump’s promise.

Miller replaced former Defense Secretary Mark Esper after President Donald Trump fired him last week.

There are currently 4,500 U.S. troops in Afghanistan and 3,000 U.S. troops stationed in Iraq. The plan to reduce the number of servicemen and servicewomen is scheduled to be completed by Jan. 15.

The Trump administration plans to reduce U.S. military personnel to zero by May 2021. Miller’s announcement keeps that troop reduction timeline from the White House and Pentagon on track.

Miller had this to say:

“Today is another critical step in that direction and a result of President Trump’s bold leadership,” Miller said. “With the blessings of Providence in the coming year, we will finish this generational war and bring our men and women home. We will protect our children from the heavy burden and toll of perpetual war. And we will honor the sacrifices made in service to peace and stability in Afghanistan, Iraq and around the world and celebrate all those who helped us secure freedom over oppression.”

This is one more campaign promise kept under the Trump administration. However, the 2020 presidential election poses serious questions about foreign policy strategy for the United States.

Joe Biden has talked of reducing the U.S. military presence in the middle east, but he is also a globalist.

It is unclear if Biden will continue President Donald Trump’s efforts to bring American men and women home and put a stop to the United States’ involvement in endless wars.
