American Kids Would Rather be Famous than Go Into Science

Kids would rather be a YouTube star than an astronaut…
Officer Ella French was fatally shot in the line of duty on Saturday (Chicago Police Department).

This is going to be a quick article because it pretty much speaks for itself about why we’re concerned for the future of America.

In a poll (yes after the 2016 election, we know not to trust all polls) conducted by Harris Poll, commissioned by LEGO, kids from the United States, England and China were asked to rank their preference on a “career.”

The baseline comparison used was what historically kids wanted to be when they grew up. For a portion of the last 50 years, Astronaut was a favorite. This is important to note because people revered in society were those in math and science that were doing amazing things like traveling into space.

Now, most of the children today want to be YouTube stars or Vloggers (while typing, we can already predict some of the comments). This sounds outrageous, and we are immediately concerned for the future of our nation.

This was exasperated by the fact that over half of the Chinese kids surveyed wanted to be astronauts. YouTube celebrity was last on their list.

If America wants to remain competitive, this needs to change.

Can you guess what came in second? Some of you may think this is worse – Professional Athlete was second. Let’s hope they want to stand for our National Anthem if they make it…

That brings up a bigger point. The chance that someone will become a pro athlete or a popular YouTube star is pretty slim to none. Younger people need to dream big, but this is pretty unrealistic.

So, if you are a parent or grandparent, it may be time to pull the plug on the internet and force-feed your offspring some math and science…Or maybe, have them watch some YouTube videos that make it look cool.

In related news, and after a quick internet search, we found this gem as well – 1 in 4 Millennials would quit their jobs to be famous. So, if you’re an employer, maybe this is why your Millennial workers are slacking off – they’re working on becoming famous. Obviously, after seeing the results from the LEGO survey, this has been a scary trend for a while.

God save America!
