Almost Two Million Signatures Collected to Recall California Gov. Newsom

Sacramento, CA — Almost two million signatures have been collected to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom, according to leaders of the effort.

The Sacramento Bee reported that the recall effort collected approximately 1.95 million signatures — about 500,000 more signatures than required.

From the school board level to state officials, extra signatures are always required for a successful recall effort. Duplicate signatures, non-voter signatures, and other reasons can cause signatures to be thrown out in the review process. However, an extra 500,000 signatures is likely a large enough cushion to ensure a successful recall effort.

The recall effort officially needs 1,495,709 signatures to trigger a special election.

This would be the second successful recall of a governor in the state’s history. Californians have attempted to recall the governor a whopping 55 times in their history.

The Secretary of State’s office noted that approximately 83 percent of the counted signatures are valid so far. If that number holds, the recall effort is on track to turn in over 1.6 million signatures — over 100,000 more signatures than required.

Just over one week remains to collect signatures for the recall effort, which ends on March 17, 2021.

All signs now point to Newsom facing a contentious special election in 2021.

  1. The actual number collected is 2 million and 60 thousand signatures. The real work begins after signatures are certified and we need a army of volunteers to help get the vote out, to check yes, on the ballot, want him recalled. Next let’s make sure we get rid of the one party rule in the state legislature. Tell the leftist Assembly members and senators that they too are fired!
