Washington D.C. — Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton cast her electoral vote for Joe Biden in New York, then slammed the Electoral College.
In a tweet announcing that she cast her vote on Monday for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, Clinton also called to abolish the Electoral College.
“I believe we should abolish the Electoral College and select our president by the winner of the popular vote, same as every other office,” Clinton wrote.
Our Founding Fathers put the Electoral College in place as a defense against mob rule. They recognized that mob rule was a consistent feature of failed democracies.
The goal was to ensure that the President of the United States was not elected solely by highly populated areas. This gave less populated states a proportional voice in presidential elections.
Democrats want to eliminate the Electoral College so they can dominate presidential elections through population centers like New York City. Large cities across the country, especially on the coast, tend to vote resoundingly for Democrats.
The Electoral College voted for President-elect Joe Biden on Monday, certifying his victory.
