Washington, D.C. – China proposed a global QR tracking system for travelers during a virtual G20 summit on Saturday.
Chinese President and leader of the Chinese Communist Party, Xi Jinping, urged countries to adopt the global tracking system. The internationally recognizable QR code would supposedly act as a health certificate to allow people to travel.
This sounds eerily similar to China’s social credit system. The system ranks citizens’ and businesses’ social and economic quality.

“Social credit” in China is an oppressive concept that hinders people’s ability to succeed and promotes discrimination.
Organizing everyone in the world under a single database based on their health does exactly the same thing – all in the name of COVID-19. We all remember where COVID-19 originated from, right?
Governments might restrict travel access for certain people based on any of the health information accessible with the QR code. It would allow governments to track the travel history of everyone who used the system.
These are blatant abuses of people’s privacy rights.
Every government in the world should run far, far away from China’s QR tracking system.
