Richmond, VA – “Virginia is for Lovers” is the state motto. However, Democrats can now say, “Virginia is for sex offenders in the State Senate.” In the “you can’t make this up” column, Virginians elected a convicted sex offender to their State Senate.
Senator-elect Joe Morrissey was elected by a large margin yesterday to represent Richmond, Chesterfield, Petersburg, Hopewell, Prince George, and Dinwiddie Counties. Democrats had a chance to say no to this sex offender because he faced opposition in a Democrat primary. He won because the Democrats really only give lip service to sexual misconduct.
This was part of a blue wave in Virginia, that seems to be turning more blue every election cycle. We know if Morrissey was conservative or had an “R” next to his name, this would have been a national headline. Instead, the MSM takes the “nothing to see here approach” giving Democrats and liberals a pass.
So, let’s review what he did to earn the sex offender title. Morrissey had sex with his teenage secretary while he served in the Virginia House of Delegates (That’s what Virginia calls it’s House of Representatives, it’s a Commonwealth…we’re not going into what that means). From WJLA 7, a local ABC News affiliate:
Morrissey was jailed four years ago after the sex scandal involving his secretary…He denied wrongdoing but entered an Alford plea to a misdemeanor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, acknowledging that prosecutors had enough evidence for a conviction.

Morrissey lost a 2016 campaign to be Richmond’s mayor and had his law license revoked last year.
He denied wrongdoing, but would have been convicted, and clearly got a plea only available to an entrenched politician (our contextual opinion here). Clearly, he was guilty at the time, and even the liberal Virginia Bar took his license to practice law. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention he eventually married his teenage secretary – you can add your own editorial here.
So, next time you hear the left throw mud against Republicans, you can cite this as Exhibit V on why they’re hypocrites.
