Washington, D.C. – House Democrats spread a little holiday cheer Wednesday night by voting to impeach President Donald Trump. After all, who doesn’t enjoy a contentious political debate around the holidays?
With the vote, Trump became the third president in history to be impeached. The House voted on two articles of impeachment:
- Abuse of Power [Y: 230 N: 197 P: 1]
- Obstruction of Congress [Y: 229 N: 198 P: 1]
The vote went as expected after hours of debate in which both sides received the gift of endless soundbites to use in the next election. Republicans remained in lock-step with all 195 present voting against both articles of impeachment.
Democrats, on the other hand, failed to keep their caucus together. Representatives Collin Peterson (D-MN) and Jeff Van Drew (D-NJ) voted against both articles of impeachment. Jared Golden (D-ME) joined them in voting against the second article of impeachment.
Presidential hopeful Tulsi Gabbard (D-HA) voted present. Justin Amash (I-MI) voted to impeach the president.
Trump won all three districts whose Democrat representatives voted against impeachment. In fact, Peterson’s district went to Trump by over 30 percent.

All this vote demonstrated is the highly partisan divide that exists around President Donald Trump. Democrats simply want to undo the 2016 election.
More than likely, this partisan divide will rear its ugly head at family gatherings over the Christmas holidays.
Our best advice (we have family afflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome as well) is to let them have their “win” and enjoy a cookie. With the current Democratic presidential field, Trump supporters might be the ones laughing in 2020.
For an extra laugh, make that cookie a “MAGA” cookie with this cookie cutter set!
