Washington, D.C. – Bad news for Democrats. Gallup, a polling firm that has been tracking trends in America for over seventy years, released some interesting data concerning their latest polling. Americans are not ready to vote for a socialist. This is not good news for the Democrats who may nominate one or both to be their presidential nominee.
From Gallup:
Just one group tested — socialists — receives majority opposition. Less than half of Americans, 45%, say they would vote for a socialist for president, while 53% say they would not.
Lydia Saad, Gallup, February 11, 2020
If you have been watching the Democratic Presidential Debates, most of the candidates who denounce socialism have dropped out. The candidates who urge caution on socialism get soundly booed or attacked on social media. The modern Democratic base seems to be leaning to the socialist left. If they nominate any of the socialist standard-bearers like Bernie Sanders, he will lose. Bernie is currently is the leading candidate for the nomination.

Former President Bill Clinton’s campaign summed up the 1992 Presidential Race in one brash catchphrase: “It’s the economy, stupid!”. This will prove to be problematic for all potential Democratic Presidential nominees. Again, looking at the latest Gallup polling:
Sixty-one percent of Americans say they are better off than they were three years ago, a higher percentage than in prior election years when an incumbent president was running. In the 1992, 1996 and 2004 election cycles, exactly half said they were better off. In three separate measures during the 2012 election cycle, an average of 45% said they were better off.
Jeffrey M. Jones, Gallup, February 12, 2020
So even with Barack Obama being underwater on this question in 2012, he still won. Maybe this was because his opponent was democrat-lite Republican nominee Mitt Romney. Because if you look at 1992, Bush had better economic numbers, with fifty percent of Americans saying they were better off. He lost to Campaigner-in-Chief Bill Clinton that year who was a much better challenger candidate than Mitt Romney in 2012.
With Trump’s “Better-off” numbers being over 10 points higher than any recent incumbent President, he has a significant advantage going into 2020.
Will Trump “Gallup” back into the White House in 2020? What do you think of Gallup’s findings? Would you vote for a socialist? Are you better off than in 2016? Please post your comments below and on our social media!
