On Trial for Being Christian: The Irrational War on Amy Coney Barrett

Washington D.C. – As America is about to appoint an intelligent, successful woman to the highest court in the land, there has emerged national opposition to her.

It is not merely because of her motherhood, her gender, and her skin color but pointed attacks on her faith.

Well, at least that was the case a few days ago when Newsweek published a thoroughly debunked anti-Christian hit-piece claiming that Amy Coney Barrett was tied to a group that inspired ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’

The media was so fast to jump onto this story that it spread to multiple outlets. Each one had to retract the claim and the smear behind it.

Of course, this is nothing new for Barrett, whose faith was attacked directly by Senator Dianne Feinstein during a previous nomination in 2017.

This dogma has got so bad that Senator Josh Hawley urged Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to keep his party in check, citing the anti-Christian rhetoric spewed by Senators Dick Durbin of Illinois and Mazie Hirono of Hawaii.

Political commentators and celebrities are also joining the anti-Christian fervor. Bill Maher, a near-constant critic of people of faith, called Barret a “[expletive) nut.”

In fact, the anti-Christian, anti-Catholic fervor has gotten so bad that Democrat consultants are urging elected officials, commentators, and others to back off. It’s clear that these attacks are exposing the anti-Christian left as out-of-touch with much of America.

That would be the end of the story if not for the indirect attack on Barrett’s faith through her adoption of Haitian children.

John Lee Brougher, of NextGen America PAC and formerly of pro-abortion group NARAL tweeted out, “As an adoptee, I need to know more about the circumstances of how Amy Coney Barrett came to adopt her children, and the treatment of them since… Transracial adoption is fraught with trauma and potential for harm.”

This disgusting attack continued with a tweet from Dana Houle, a Democrat campaign manager who has worked on Capitol Hill. Thankfully U.S. Senator Tom Cotton called out Houle on her baseless attack, which she deleted in shame.

Yet the worst was still to come when Ibram Kendi tried to smear Barrett for her adoption, equating people who adopt black children to some colonial slaveholders, before walking the tweet back, claiming he isn’t sure if Barrett would fit that category. This tweet received much praise from the radical left and much criticism from actual journalists.

Only in 2020 can Christian faith and service to our fellow men be weaponized as something vicious.

Undoubtedly when the Senate convenes to confirm Amy Coney Barrett they will find that she is, in fact, a person of faith. We guess then we will see what the sentence is for her guilt.
