San Juan, Puerto Rico – Obama wants to make Puerto Rico a state. Well, he at least said that they should have congressional representation. Since Obama, a former “Constitutional Professor” completely doesn’t understand the Constitution or willfully ignores it, does he understand this would require Puerto Rico to become a State?
We covered Obama and his thoughts on Puerto Rico, in an article titled: “Obama Just Can’t Let It Go”. You may remember when Obama used the national stage at Congressman John Lewis’ funeral, to push policy. This has been a taboo practice of former Presidents. However, we all know about Obama and narcissism.
For this article, we did a little research on which party controls Puerto Rico. Since 2019 there have been “succession” issues regarding their Governor. She is listed as both a “Republican” and a “Democrat” by Wikipedia. However, their Governor was NOT elected but appointed.
The last Governor elected by the vote of Puerto Ricans was a Democrat who was a Hillary Clinton Delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. The main political party in Puerto Rico is the “New Progressive Party,” they control all three branches of government. The New Progressive Party advocates for Puerto Rican statehood.
We feel comfortable in saying that the politics of Puerto Rico tilts left. We believe this would add more left-leaning votes in the U.S. Senate and Congress if granted statehood. But first, Puerto Rico needs to demonstrate they can hold an election without failure.
Obama wants to make Puerto Rico a state.
From the Associated Press:
Puerto Rico’s primaries were marred Sunday by a lack of ballots in a majority of centers across the U.S. territory, forcing frustrated voters who braved a spike in COVID-19 cases to turn around and go home.
Puerto Rico halts primary voting in centers lacking ballots, Associated Press, August 9, 2020
So, if you can’t print ballots and deliver them to voting centers to have a valid election, why should you be granted statehood? Yeah, we don’t think they’re worth either.
Of course, there is the massive debt in Puerto Rico. Since last year they have been looking for bailouts from the United States and are considering bankruptcy. So what do they add to the United States if they were granted statehood? Nada mucho!
We don’t need another state, 50 seems like a good number. We also don’t need to add any more debt-ridden liberals to political power. Obama wants to make Puerto Rico a state, and like everything he does and says, he is wrong!
What do you think? Should Puerto Rico become a state and have a vote in Congress? Is Obama an idiot or just a political opportunist? Please write your comments below or on social media!
