St. Louis, MO – Democrats cart hard left in primaries. This started in July 2020 when Jamaal Bowman ousted sixteen term Democrat Congressman Elliot Engel. This trend has continued into August with wins for the extreme-far-left in Michigan and Missouri.
Let’s start with Missouri. Missouri used to be a reliable Red State, but the election dynamics have changed over the last few decades. For President, it’s been pretty solid Red with Trump doubling up Romney’s 2012 total with 18.5%. However, in Missouri’s 2018 U.S. Senate race, Josh Hawley, the stste’s sitting Attorney General beat incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill by a little over 5 percent. Both had primaries; this probably hurt McCaskill more because she had to cart to the left to win the primary.
Now, in St. Louis, Missouri, a relative newcomer, and Black Lives Matter protest leader Cori Bush beat out incumbent Congressman William Lacy Clay. He had held the seat for almost half a century. In 2018, Bush had primaried Clay with the support of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), the far-left’s poster child, but came up short.
As the Associated Press reports:
Cori Bush, a onetime homeless woman who led protests following a white police officer’s fatal shooting of a Black 18-year-old in Ferguson, ousted longtime Rep. William Lacy Clay Tuesday in Missouri’s Democratic primary, ending a political dynasty that has spanned more than a half-century… Bush’s victory came in a rematch of 2018, when she failed to capitalize on a national Democratic wave that favored political newcomers such as Bush’s friend, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez…But this time around, Bush’s supporters said protests over the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis and outrage over racial injustice finally pushed her over the edge.

This is a clear cart to the left in Missouri for Democrats and a huge win for AOC. AOC and “The Squad” are adding to their numbers. The Squad is the militant extreme-far-left socialist group of Democrat congresswomen made up of AOC of New York City, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan.
Speaking of Tlaib in Michigan, she fended off a primary from the right. Essentially, this means someone slightly less of a socialist was running against her. Apparently, Michigan Democrats in the district love the Israel and Jewish hating socialist. Tlaib won by a two to one margin, easily beating her opponent. Again, The Squad led by AOC are flexing their electoral muscle. These people make socialist San Francisco Speaker of the House Nacy Pelosi look reasonable…This is a joke, they’re all crazy.

Finally, as we mentioned earlier, was the win of Jamaal Bowman, who was backed by AOC. He easily defeated incumbent Elliot Engel, even with Engel having a substantial financial advantage. Clearly, rank and file Democrats want their party to cart hard left. We are seeing this national trend.
So what does this hard-left trend mean for the election in November? The far-left’s base will get out in November, that’s a guarantee. So AOC’s team really does nothing to help Democrats in November. We would argue that it hurts Democrat’s chances outside of their liberal strongholds in swing states.
Will we see easy wins for Republicans in November in swing states like Missouri and Michigan? Most likely, and we may see Democrats lose the U.S. House and Republicans keep the U.S. Senate. This probably bodes well for Trump’s re-election as well.

What do you think? Have the Democrats carted hard left? Is AOC going to be the next Speaker of the House if Democrats maintain control of that chamber? Does this help Trump and fellow Republicans? Please write your comments below and on social media!
