Washington D.C. — The United States House of Representatives agreed to a coronavirus stimulus package costing the Nation over $900 Billion. The bill was packaged with a $1.4 Trillion spending package that funds the Government. That brings the total cost of the bill to over $2.3 Trillion.
The 5,593-page bill was both introduced and voted on today. This gave members of the House less than three hours to read the bill.
The House of Representatives has a rule which requires 72 hours between the introduction of a bill and the vote. However, the House voted to suspend the rules and pass the bill immediately.
The motion passed 359 to 53, with all but two Democrats voting yes. 128 Republicans also joined the Democrats in voting yes.
The package includes a $600 stimulus check for each American under a certain income threshold. This section of the bill only makes up a small portion of the total package.
While the $600 check may take up most of the mainstream media headlines, what is more telling is what else makes up the $2.3 Trillion package.
Compiled here is a list of the top ten most ridiculous items in this bill:
- $1.3 Billion to Egypt
- There are multiple large foreign aid projects in this bill. This includes $130 Million to Nepal, $135 Million to Burma, $85.5 Million to Cambodia, $500 Million to Israel, $700 Million to Sudan, and yes, $1.3 Billion to Egypt.
2. $10 Million to “gender programs” in Pakistan
- Some argue that gender is a spectrum. We’ll see if that holds true in Pakistan because the House of Representatives just authorized $10 Million to be spent on gender studies.
3. $14 Million to the Woodrow Wilson Center
- It is only fitting that $14 Million goes to the Woodrow Wilson Center, given that Woodrow Wilson was the President who authorized the creation of the Federal Reserve, which will print the money that pays for the bill. Tit for Tat, just 107 years later.
4. Makes it a felony to illegally stream movies and TV shows
- Who doesn’t love the Mandalorian? It had a pretty wild season finale. But let’s just say you watched the episode without paying for Disney Plus. Well now, with this new spending package, you could be facing felony charges and a trip to your local prison.
5. $35 Billion towards combating “Climate Change”
- Did the shutdowns cost you your business? Hey, at least you’ll have more windmills to look at.
6. Creates a “Climate Security Advisory Council”
- The stimulus bill doesn’t stop at spending $35 Billion on windmills and solar panels; it also creates a “Climate Security Advisory Council.” What will the Council do? Who knows, but it’ll cost you.
7. Creates the “US-India Ghandi-King Development Foundation,” $30 Million Annually
- The foundation is supposed to award grants to nongovernmental organizations that provide help for health crises in India. That’ll never be abused, right?
8. Reiterates the United States’ policy on who the next Dalai Lama is
- The Dalai Lama believes in reincarnation, and so too does the United States Government, or at least they claim to in this bill. The bill affirms that it will follow the wishes of the Dalai Lama, and his successor will be determined by the Tibetan Buddhists.
9. $193 Million to HIV/AIDS workers abroad to Buy New Cars
- What’s in the Second showcase, Drew? Could it be? A BRAND NEW CAR. The United States employs medical workers to help fight HIV/AIDS all across the world. Apparently, they need new wheels.
10. $600 checks to the people
- This may sound like an odd one to include on this list, but hear me out. This “COVID relief” is somehow simultaneously too much money and not enough. $600 can be a difference-maker for many families, but does it make up for the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs or businesses over the last nine months? No. On the other hand, this bill clocks in at over $2.3 Trillion dollars. That’s $2.3 Trillion dollars the United States doesn’t have. Spending that will be paid off by your children, your children’s children, and your children’s children’s children. You get the point.
There is so much in this bill, and ten items do not encompass how much waste is in it. The bill is expected to be passed by the Senate and signed by President Trump this week.
